Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day…

Haters gonna hate…

“They don’t want to be truthful with him,” one prominent player said of the way that the organization has handled Sanchez. “They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth.”

A Jets spokesman declined to make Sanchez available for this story. A source close to the team pointed out that Sanchez’s inability to handle mounting criticism prompted him to unfollow every Jets beat writer on Twitter earlier this season.

“So that should tell you everything,” the source said. “He just doesn’t have the mental toughness to be great… especially in New York.”

Some in the organization told The News that many of Sanchez’s teammates have grown resentful for myriad reasons.

“They see the organization babying him,” said a Jets source. “They see him with a sense of entitlement. He’s been given all this and hasn’t done anything. They call him ‘San-chise.’ They make him the face of the organization. They gave him the captain tag. He’s not a captain. He should have never been a captain.”

Teammates say Holmes quit on Jets

Prioritize all the issues the 8-8 Jets have, and there is a long list of fixes needed to be made before the 2012 season kicks off in eight months, —restore some confidence in Sanchez, replace the O.C.**, repair the offensive line, acquire more offensive firepower, and all that is on just one side of the ball— but having to deal with Santonio Holmes & the one man mutiny he pulled on Sunday should not have needed to be one of the issues listed. And yet it will be. It has to be.

For Holmes, a team captain(for whatever that’s worth these days in sports), to be labeled in the following way, “He quit a long time ago,” one Jet, who requested anonymity, said. “He’s a cancer.”, is not only an indictment as him as a player on the field, but as a professional in general. Teammates don’t call guys, “a cancer”, unless they want him gone. That’s just a fact.

To his credit, LaDainian Tomlinson spoke on the record by providing details. “There were some guys in the huddle that were unhappy with Tone’s demeanor. When you have a group of guys that’s fighting their butts off, and one guy, for whatever reason, their demeanor’s not with them, you’re going to get some guys to say something to him and tell them how they feel.”

Holmes will use this week to throw the Jets O.C., Brian Schottenheimer, under every MTA bus in NYC, portraying him as a coach not using his players in a way that allows them to succeed. That may be true, and Schotty is as good as gone so he’s an easy target of blame, but I’ll get to that in a moment. Holmes may even hint that Mark Sanchez wasn’t good enough to get the Jets to the playoffs. That also may be true. As a matter of fact, if he were to make that case, I would happen to agree with him on that second point. Sanchez is a QB who needs the players around him to make him better. He is not making them better. He just isn’t.

However, I don’t play for the Jets as Holmes does. I’m not their most dangerous weapon on offense. I’m not the guy who got a new contract. I’m not a Jets captain. Most importantly, I’m not the one offensive player who most needs to have his head in the game, because it allows your QB to go from a guy with very little confidence, to a QB who can lead you deep into the playoffs.

The guy who fits all those descriptions is Santonio Holmes. The same guy who went AWOL on his QB & his offense yesterday afternoon. Hell, it sounds like he may have quit at different points throughout the season. That’s a cardinal sin in sports. Jets fans may one day forgive him for his actions on Sunday, Jan. 1st, 2012. But they will never forget. Ever.

I believe this is the year we’re going to win. I guarantee we’ll win (Super Bowl) this year… I’m trying to win a championship. I’m always going to say the same thing. I believe we can be champs. Why wouldn’t I believe it? Somebody tell me why I shouldn’t believe that we deserve to be champions.
Rex Ryan, Head Coach of the Jets, in 2011. I don’t mind the bravado, but the way the Miami game unfolded, he needs to be accountable for much of what happened. Saying he didn’t know why Holmes was on sideline is not a good start. The Jets playmaker got yanked for disrupting huddle & then sat on bench, sulking. Ryan can’t be pleased one of his captains quit.
