The NFL Hangover: Week 8

Hey everyone! After a two week hiatus, I am back with the NFL Hangover. I skipped week six because I was at a wedding that weekend and I didn’t watch any of the weekend games. I skipped week seven because it was the worst week of football I’ve ever seen and it was too depressing to write about. Im sorry to those of you that actually read the post. Enough about all that shit, I’m back this week to chime in on some of the top story lines of the last week.

First and foremost, I have to talk about Tim Tebow. He’s the new Favre. You can’t escape all this Tebow business. I have no issue with Tim Tebow the person. He seems like a really nice guy. I wish he would keep all his religious stuff to himself, but whatever. I’m not going to knock a guy for having morals and faith. What I can’t stand are his fucking fans. I don’t get how you can watch him play in an NFL game and think he’s ready to play Quarterback. He’s atrocious. People praise his work ethic, like he’s going to will himself into becoming an accurate passer. That shit is idiotic. Every QB in NFL history that was ever worth a shit has a good work ethic. That’s a trait that cancels out.

I have a feeling that John Elway and John Fox are really happy that he’s failing so that the stupid ass Broncos fans will stop chanting for Tebow and Denver can draft a real QB next season.

Is it just me, or is Phillip Rivers turning into a bizarro Tony Romo? I don’t expect either one of their teams to make the playoffs. The AFC West is going to come down to Oakland and KC. The NFC East will come down to The Giants and Eagles.

The Steelers are still the team to beat in the AFC. I thought it would be the Ravens, but they’ve been underwhelming the past two weeks. The Sunday night game between these two teams will go a long way towards determining who wins this division and earns a first round bye in the playoffs. I have a feeling that the Ravens will take it because the game is in Baltimore and they are due for a strong performance after back to back stinkers.

I’ve been telling you guys about how beatable the Patriots are. Their defense can’t hold water in a cup and their receivers aren’t big or fast enough to make teams pay for playing tight man coverage. If you can get pressure on Brady up the middle, the Pats offense becomes pretty pedestrian because Brady isn’t going to buy himself time if he can’t step up in the pocket. This New England team might earn a first round bye, but I can’t see them making it to the Super Bowl this year unless Wes Welker grows about four inches and starts dominating press coverage.

Cam Newton is unreal. I’ve never seen a rookie QB play this well. I predicted after week one that he would only get better as the season progressed, yet I’m still in awe of how great he is. After Olindo Mare missed a 31 yard field goal to tie the game at the end of regulation, Newton defended his kicker during his post game comments to the press. You gotta love that kind of leadership, even if it is cliche.

Maybe Eli Manning wasn’t that crazy when he said that he’s in the same class as Tom Brady. So far this season, Manning is the league’s 3rd highest rated passer behind Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. He has the second highest yards per attempt behind Rodgers. He only has five interceptions in seven games, with three picks coming in the Giants terrible loss to Seattle. Eli has also been the league’s highest rated passer in the 4th quarter, with a whopping 119.3 rating. Ryan Fitzpatrick is second at 108. Eli Manning is having an MVP-type season so far.

I’m not all that worried about the Saints. I know they got their asses kicked by the Rams, but these kinds of losses happen. They’ll still win their division by a couple games and any team with Drew Brees is formidable come playoff time.

The Dolphins and Colts are pulling away in the “Suck for Luck” sweepstakes. I think the Colts are more likely to end up with the worst record. The Dolphins are the less talented team, but they are still playing their asses off, they’re just overmatched every week. The Colts are different. They’ve got some talent but they gave up on this season weeks ago and have been mailing it in ever since. The only issue with Indy getting the top pick is that I just can’t see them drafting Luck and keeping Manning. It’s a disservice to both of them. If you’re going to keep Peyton Manning, you owe it to him and the vets on that team to use that pick to acquire talent that will help you win a Super Bowl immediately.

Well that’s all I’ve got for this week. The games this coming weekend are going to be awesome and I can’t wait to talk about them with you all next week! HAPPY FOOTBALL EVERYONE!
