The officials don’t call holding penalties in the playoffs, and they definitely don’t call holding in the Super Bowl. That goes for offense, kick returns, and yes, even defense. If Colin Kaepernick threw that 4th quarter pass slightly closer, it might have been close enough to pass interference to draw a flag, but for whatever reason, holding is a regular season offense only. Just ask all the Patriots fans who hate David Tyree.
The notable exception is Super Bowl XL, where the Seahawks had a crucial touchdown negated by a holding call. But that’s because God hates Seattle sports, which was most recently demonstrated when He smited the city with the wretched Sacramento Kings. Pestilence and a rain of frogs are nothing compared to having to watch Jimmer Fredette try to play defense against a fast point guard.
